Create a Class Flag!


Did you know that there are special flags that ships use to signal to other ships? Sailors use International Signal Flagsshown below. They are used to spell out messages such as "I require assistance" or "man overboard."

Class Project:

Make a class flag to decorate Mrs. McGinnis' quarters on the Ocean Star. Mrs. McGinnis will return your flag after having the captain of the Ocean Star put his signature on your flag. You can make your class flag out of paper, fabric, or any other lightweight material that will easily fold and fit into a duffle bag.

Note: Depending on the response and packing restrictions, it may be necessary to select one flag by lottery to represent each school. All flags must be delivered to Arcola no later than noon on Wednesday, May 15.

Materials:

  • Fabric

  • Fabric Pain

  • Scissors

Size:

No larger than 2' x 3"

What to Put on Your Classroom Flag:

  • A symbol that represents your classroom

  • A class motto

  • Teacher's Name
